Dear Angel:

I'm a 15 year old girl and I've been suffering from depression for two years. When I was ten my, younger brother died of an unknown illness. He was the most important person in the world to me and I feel as though my life is empty.

Ever since then my father has become aggressive towards me. Once me and my mom got into a fight and she left for a few days. When she was gone he beat me and made me sleep outside. I've gone to counseling several times but its just hopeless. My mother doesn't even care about me anymore. Also, about five months ago I got drunk at a friends house and a 22 guy raped me. If I don't get help soon I'm going to kill myself. Any advice you could give me I would greatly appreciate.

A.

You need to get back into counseling as soon as possible, and try to get your parents involved too. Talk to your counselor and tell him/her everything you have told me. If you don't feel comfortable with this one, ask your school counselor or your doctor to recommend another for you that specializes in what you are going through. Tell them exactly what you told me. Your father beating you and making you sleep outside is abuse and child endangerment and can not be allowed to continue that behavior.

I'm sure their grief at the loss of their son and your brother has made things rough, and perhaps they don't understand that your grief and loss is as great as theirs.

Drinking isn't going to make it all go away. Counseling will help you learn to deal with your brothers loss and go on with your life as he would want you to.

Talk to a trusted adult relative or friend about what has been going on and ask for help. This is something you can't do on your own without support.
