Dear Angel:
I am twenty now and all of my life I have had to take care of my mom. I was told that she was diagnosed with bi-polor disorder but would never do anything about it. Now she has gone crazy and has hurt everyone around her, but yet, it is all of our faults. She can't see that she has caused this, so after taking care of her for all these years, I left. I finally saw what she really was and could not take care of it anymore. What should I do? Please help.
A.
What she really is, is sick and needing help, but there is only so much that you can do. Call your mental health agency and see if there are support groups locally that you and your family can go to. Please don't give up on her. Maybe as a family unit you can get her to see the doctor and get some help. Tell her that you love her and want her in your life, but that you can't do it alone, she needs to help. Talk to her doctor and find out exactly what his diagnosis was and ask for suggestions to help her.
