Setting goals can seem like an insurmountable task at times. The biggest problem is that people will set their goals too high and get discouraged trying to attain them.
Start small - this week's goal could be to make a new friend, help someone in need, do better at work, or just to make the time to do something nice for yourself.
In your workplace, figure out the steps to better yourself and move up. Take one step at a time. When you reach that goal, set another one.
It's good to set long term goals as long as you master the shorter term ones getting there.
Worldly pleasures are nice, but for others like yourself, they aren't enough incentive for motivation. Figure out where you want to go - what you want to attain in maybe 5 years from now and work on that, one step at a time. As you attain each small goal the rest of them will be more exciting for you.
