Dear Angel:
I am a 25 yr. old female. I have been dating this guy for about 2 months It's going good, but just a few days ago I had surgery and my ex-boyfriend had come with me. We are very good friends. The guy that I'm seeing was in school doing exams and he could not be there. My ex has always been there and I will be there for him too. I had told the guy that I'm seeing that my ex was at the hospital. He did not like the fact that my friend was there and he wasn't. It almost felt like he was giving me an ultimatum. I told him that we are very good friends and that my ex just wants me to be happy. How do I deal with being friends with my ex if it's going to cause a problem with whoever I'm going to date in the future? I don't want to lose my friendship over a guy. Guys come and go, but friends don't. I don't want to pick and choose. Can you help me? I am really confused.
A.
Your last sentence says it all. Guys come and go but true friends are forever. Your friendship with your ex is rare and it is wonderful that he could be there for you at the hospital when your current boyfriend could not be.
If your boyfriend is giving you an ultimatum to choose between them, I suggest telling him to hit the road. If he cannot accept your friendship now, it will only get worse in the future. He will be always trying to pick your friends for you.
